Everything Scottish…
The British Association of Teachers of Dance (BATD) is a UK-based dance examination board, with its Head Office in Glasgow, Scotland. The officially recognized date for the formation of the society is 30 November 1892, making it the first professional dance organization of its kind in the United Kingdom, and the second oldest in the world. At least once a year we have a BATD examiner come to the studio to test our Scottish Highland Students on their knowledge and execution of steps. From those exams students above a certain level are selected to compete at the BATD Conference for the Sadie Simpson Scholarship.
The competition for the scholarship includes a written paper, technique class and performance of their solo Scottish choreography. This year the Conference was in Toronto, Canada and the following CDPA students were chosen by the BATD to compete, Cami Amein, Anna Binkley, Katie Brosonski, Kendall DeFranco, Elizabeth Karpov and Courtney McHale. The competition includes more than a 100 dancers and CDPA made an excellent showing in the tough competition of the North American Region.
Also, in October is the Stone Mountain Scottish Highland Games in Georgia. It is a 2 day event and a fun, family weekend. CDPA made another great showing with some awesome dancing from our Premier and Pre-Premier Dancers.
